What Body Image Means to Nic of My Bottle’s Up
i took this photo on a sunday afternoon. my son had just woken up from his nap. an abundance of bed-head and sweat. and i grabbed my camera. i captured him as a little wild-haired mess, running around the kitchen table, looking for halloween candy. i captured my husband unloading the dishwasher. and then i escaped from the everyday of sunday afternoon and took a moment to sit on the kitchen table and snap a shot of myself in the mirror. the light was good. i was wearing my standard t-shirt and jeans. but in the midst of a post-nap-mom-moment with my family, i chose to take a quick shot of myself. and i’m glad i did because typically i’m on the other side of the camera. in terms of body image and especially being a mom, taking time for myself (even if it’s a split second for a photograph) encourages me to remember that i am worth it.
Nic, our Ms. April, blogs at My Bottle’s Up, which is a parenting blog, humor blog, and rape advocacy & awareness blog. Nic’s goal in being a part of the Blogger Body Calendar is to not only honor the goal of April being Sexual Assault Awareness Month, but to also pay homage to those survivors of rape and sexual violence by celebrating her own body.
