Eat Sushi Today for Food & Body Image Week by Crunchy Betty
I come from a family of save-for-laters.
“Don’t eat all of it, or you won’t have any left for tomorrow.” Growing up, my mother said those words to me nearly every day.
I never understood that, really. I’ve always been really ridiculously good at living in the moment. Why would I want to save something for tomorrow when I’m enjoying it so much right now?
Maybe that’s why I love sushi so much.
You can’t save it for tomorrow. It’ll stink. It’ll be off. Every single bite – every last piece of wayward rice – you have to eat right now.
There’s no guilt. There’s no worry. There’s no stopping in the middle to ask for a doggy bag.
There’s just you and tiny little disks of moist and spicy perfection.
Silence while you chew.
Nirvana when you swallow.
It’s all very, very zen.
No, sushi can’t be saved for later.
Sushi is the now.

Yum. Sushi.
I have learned to not wait so much either.
Thanks for sharing here and your site to help the Blogger Body Calendar out!
Oh, sushi sounds great right now. I never can figure out how to incorporate sushi into life with a three year-old. Plus, I never know what to order or what I am eating, so I don’t know what to let him try.
Leave it to you, CB, to remind of us the perfect present moment food… you are so right.
I look at the sushi that is kept in refrigerator cases and just shake my head. Now. (You know why.) I learned quite a lesson from a friend about mindful eating when we were at a ball game, and we were served sushi and the rice was so cold that it almost seemed raw, and she said “gross” and wouldn’t dream of eating it, and I was half-way through mine when she said it because hey, it was free sushi.
I know, you’re shaking your head, too.
That is a fresh new way of looking at sushi. I love sushi and I will enjoy it even more. Thanks for sharing.
