The National Domestic Violence Registry
Today, instead of featuring another amazing guest blogger, we wanted to tell you about something equally as amazing. Wait, scratch that, this is even more amazing.
By now you’ve heard about The National Sex Offender Registry, and a sites like FamilyWatchdog.us where you can search your neighborhood for registered sex offenders. Well, The National Domestic Violence Registry is just like it, only for individuals with domestic violence conviction records and long term restraining orders.
Founded in 2007, The National Domestic Violence Registry (NDVR), www.domesticviolencedatabase.org, is the first national database model for domestic violence convictions available to the public. It’s about time, don’t you think? The purpose of the registry is to help keep the public safe by placing offenders only, not victims, in an ever growing database for those who have an established history of violence. Currently you can search by name, if you are looking for a specific individual, or by state, if you are interested to see how may live near you. The NDVR is also developing other programs for educating the public about the benefits of GPS, safety planning for survivors and self sufficiency.
Everyone at BBC wants to help spread the word and do what we can do to help prevent domestic abuse. We would be so pleased if you passed along this information by sharing our post via email, Facebook, Twitter, or by simply sending the link for the NDVR web site (www.domesticviolencedatabase.org) to a loved one.
