FBW: Interview with Nicole from In These Small Moments (Ms. March)

FBW stands for Featured Blogger of the Week. Each week we will feature one of our calendar ladies or gentleman. Mondays will be a post written by the FBW and Wednesdays will be an interview of the FBW. If you want to know how you can be a part of the Blogger Body Calendar project, please click here.

What would other people say about your blog?

I hope that they say that in these small moments is a peaceful place … that they feel happy when they leave. I’ve had people tell me that they left my blog and hugged their kids. I can’t think of a better compliment than that.

Describe your calendar photo in 140 characters or less.

All I can tell you right now is that my photo will require my dear friend and trusted photographer, Lori, to recreate spring rain in the California summer sunshine. Can it be done? Stay tuned.

If you could eat only one dessert for the rest of your days, what would it be?

When I was growing up, my mother had a part-time job making wedding cakes on the weekends. Those cakes were glorious. She made them in our kitchen, often into the wee hours of the morning. I could never tire of those white cakes with buttercream frosting. Those are such happy memories.

If you could listen to one CD for the rest of your days, what would it be?

Without question, it would be Under the Table and Dreaming by The Dave Matthews Band. “The Best of What’s Around” runs through my veins. It brings me a ridiculous amount of joy that our daughter can recognize a DMB song from the very first bars.

What do you want your daughter to know about being a strong woman?

I want my sweet Katie to know that she is already just perfect. That love isn’t conditional…it isn’t based on someone else’s expectations of who they want you to be. I want her to believe in herself and know that she is already worthy of love and kindness.

Describe the perfect Saturday evening.

Who doesn’t adore Saturdays? We love putting the kids in the bike trailer and going for long bike rides. Then, after we have tucked the kids into bed, Craig and I grab a couple of beers and sit outside in the quiet and we just reconnect. This life that I have hasn’t come easily and in those quiet moments on the patio, I am overcome with sheer gratitude.

FBW: Interview with Jules from Michon Michon (Ms. December)

Yikes! An interview… Being the last of the 12 to do this is a little intimidating. But here goes.

Why did you decide to join the Blogger Body Calendar project?

I decided to join because the women in the calendar last year were such an inspiration to me. I wrote a guest post last year about trying to accept myself. I found it to be freeing. And knowing that all proceeds go to Violence Un-Silenced makes it all the better!

What do you think a strong woman looks like?

A strong woman is you. It’s me. It’s any woman who has gone through the struggles in her life, no matter how big or small, and come out the other side.

Describe your calendar photo in 140 characters or less.

My calendar photo is about moving on.

When I’m not posing for kick-ass calendars, you can usually find me:

Eating ice cream while playing with my iPhone. Yum!

Jules can be found blogging at Michon Michon, as well as spending a huge chunk of time on Twitter and on FB.

FBW: Interview with Andy from Crazy with a Side of Awesomesauce (Ms. July)

Why did you decide to join the Blogger Body Calendar project?

Oh goodness, I’ve wanted to be apart of this since it began. I can’t express how excited I am to be here! It’s a great cause that is very close to my heart. Most people think bloggers are narcissistic, but here we are (!) doing good work, raising money and awareness.

What would other people say about your blog? (oh no. i’ve already gotten bored of your opinion. well, you can answer a different question if you want.)

I’ve heard it called eclectic and brazen, refreshingly honest, but boys tread with caution. Yeah that’s about right.

Describe your calendar photo in 140 characters or less.

Reading is sexy. All I’m sayin’.

Do you consider yourself successful at blogging? Why or why not?

Oh what is success? If success is blogging daily for years with, for the most part, loyal readership and a nurturing community, then yes, I’m successful at blogging. If success is ad dollars and blogging conferences and book deals, no effing way. But am I happy to be a blogger and love this space I’ve created? Hell yes. I get to be a writer every day. It’s freaking awesome.

There are a lot of trends in the blogosphere right now, do you think that ninjas, unicorns, and zombies will soon be replaced by tai chi, Big Foot, and people who crave chicken (instead of brains)?

Part of me doesn’t give an ass on a rat. The other part thinks we can’t predict what craziness is coming. Maybe it will be Frankenstein Monsters and Koala babies. As long as sparkly vampires go away, I’ll be a happy clam.

Andrea (Andy to her friends) blogs at Crazy with a Side of Awesomesauce, and Sprocket Ink. She can also be found sharing a little bit of her crazy on Twitter @andygirl and on Facebook.

FBW: Interview with Meghan from Meg’s Idle Chatter (Ms. October)

Why did you decide to join the Blogger Body Calendar project?

See my post from earlier this week.

What do you think a strong woman looks like?

There is no such thing. Strength is not a “look” but a feeling that simply emanates from within. And even when it’s not obvious to other people, it’s still there.

What would other people say about your blog?

I call it Meg’s Idle Chatter because that is a good chunk of what I write on it, just idle chatter that people may or not care to read about it… but it gives me a chance to run off my mouth. And running off my mouth is how I’ve heard it described so…

Describe your calendar photo in 140 characters or less.

Oh crap, a photo! I knew I was forgetting something….

Do you consider yourself successful at blogging?  Why or why not?

Well yes and no. If by success you mean am I supporting my family with an income from blogging, than no. If you simply mean success in the terms of the fact that people pay me to write, than I guess so. But if we can define success by the fact that things I’ve written on my blog have helped or touched people. Then yes, I’ve had lot of success at blogging.

When I’m not posing for kick-ass calendars, you can usually find me:

a) Eating ice cream

b) Eating ice cream while riding a bike

c) Eating ice cream while playing with my iPhone

d) All of the above. Because I am THAT awesome.

You can find more of Meghan’s highly caffeinated and chocolate tinged musings at Meg’s Idle ChatterLife360 or SheHeroes.org (where she is also in charge of New Media) and on Twitter at @meghan1018.

About BBC2012

This year’s theme is: Survivor and Strength.

To me, above all, women are survivors. They survive domestic abuse, physical, sexual, and mental abuse, and the abuse we sometimes do to ourselves (eating disorders, cutting, etc.). Women survive, and do so beautifully.

This year our participants will show off that survivor strength, not because they are all survivors, but because they all are supporters of every woman who has had to struggle against the violence. All proceeds will go Violence UnSilenced.
